When my family moved to an older house in the suburbs of
Philadelphia, one of the first things on my to-do list was installing a
home security system. It was non-negotiable for us. I wanted to sleep
soundly at night knowing that our alarm would go off if any door or
window was opened or motion detected. We chose ADT because it was the
company my parents trusted growing up and the company our neighbors
trust. And now it’s the company we trust with keeping our children and
home safe and secure. While we live in a great neighborhood, we wanted
the extra safety and comfort of monitoring our home 24/7. Within a week
of closing on our forever home, we had our new security system up and
running.
With four small kids in a big suburban house, I wouldn’t feel safe
without our alarm system. But ADT does a lot more these days than just
help protect your home –you can control their home automation services
right from your mobile phone. In short, you can control your door locks,
carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats, appliances, lights, and more.
Being able to operate our system from my phone makes my life easier in so many ways:
It’s 10 p.m. and all of my children are sleeping soundly. I
tiptoe from room to room, kissing their sweet-smelling heads and tucking
them in one last time. Finally, after a long and happy day, I tuck
myself into bed. As I’m drifting off, I remember I haven’t activated our
home security system for the night. I roll over, grab my iPhone, and turn it on in seconds. Now I can relax and sleep.
The kids and I spend the next day at a nearby science center, and
I’ve forgotten that the plumber is coming to our house. He calls me
since no one answered the doorbell, and I log into my app to unlock our
side door for him. When he leaves, I remotely lock the door and engage
our alarm system again.
The ADT Pulse app allows me to arm and disarm our alarm system from outside our home.
I can lock or unlock our side door, look in on our home through the
camera, or check our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Having access
to so much information about my home at my fingertips is convenient. As
someone who travels a lot, I love being able to check up on our house
remotely.
Plus we often have young teenage babysitters at home with our kids
(who are 6, 5, 3, and 6 months old). After my husband and I head out on
date night, I let the sitter know I’ll be turning on the security system
until we get home again, which gives both of us an extra layer of
security.
Our home is almost 50 years old and we had a huge learning curve our
first year learning about our home’s quirks. We had a scare once when
the carbon monoxide detector went off in our hallway soon after we moved
in. It was late fall and we had started up one of our heaters for the
first time. Soon after, the carbon monoxide detector went off.
Because we had ADT, a rep called us immediately and we were also
alerted through the app. Just as we debated waking up our kids and
taking them outside, the fire department arrived to ensure our home was
secure. Thanks to ADT I quickly felt safe and protected in a stressful
and scary moment.
ADT has helped my family and loved ones feel safe in our home, no
matter where we are. I can easily say that the security I feel is worth
every penny we spend.
